At first glance towns may seem to offer little to wildlife. However, a number of birds and mammals have found some advantages in co-existence with man.
Large buildings are favourite roosting placed for pigeons and starlings. Plants rapidly colonise waste ground, attracting insects which in turn provide food and shelter for birds and mammals. Sewage works attract birds including migrating waders. Scavengers like crows and gulls, rats and mice may be found on our rubbish tips.
