Rook

Large, black, crow-like bird that is invariably more gregarious than the similar carrion crow. Resident, though sometimes migrant over much of Europe. Frequents pasture and arable land. Subject to recent decline in the county partly due to the loss of elm trees in which many nested.

Voice: raucous “baar”

Nest: colonial, bulky twig nest high up in tree.

Diet: mainly vegetable matter such as corn.
