Pheasant

Resident. First introduced in the 11th century. Now common in fields and woods where thick cover provides shelter. Diet includes grain, seeds, berries and insects.

Said to have been introduced by the Romans and certainly by the Normans.

Voice-Ringing, far-carrying kok-kok followed by explosive wing claps.

Habitat-Introduced centuries ago, widespread year-round.

Nest-Well-concealed grassy cup on ground.

Diet-Varied, including both vegetable and animal matter.
