Collared dove

Spread to Britain from Europe in 1955. Now fairly common in areas of human habitation, frequenting parks and large gardens. Often nests in tall conifers. 

 

A distinctive, pink and buff dove. 

Voice-Distinctive dry aaah in flight, song strident and persistent coo-coo-coo.    

Habitat-Westward-spreading, post-1940 newcomer to Europe from Asia, colonising Ireland in 1970s.   

Nest-Flimsy twig platform in bush, tree, or ledge. 

Diet-Grain, spilt or otherwise,and the seeds of weeds.
