Common in woods, hedgerows and gardens. Nests in holes in a tree or wall. In woodland feeds mainly on insects but readily eats nuts and fat when hung up in a garden.
One of the most common and familiar if British and Irish birds.
Voice: “see-see-see-sit” call, song on accelerating trill after see-see-see notes.
Habitat: resident and migrant over much of Europe except for the north.
Nest: in hole or crevice in a tree, bank or building.
Diet: insects and their larvae as well as spiders and millipedes.
